The Pitt County Animal Shelter provides a shelter for stray animals and owner turn in animals which can either be placed up for adoption or euthanized. NC State law only requires stray animals be held for 72 hours. It is very important if you have lost an animal to immediately report it. The Animal Shelter also provides rabies control services such as loaning out of dog/cat traps and investigating animal bites in the county, as well as offers annual rabies clinics offering vaccines for $5 and replacement rabies tags at no charge.
The Pitt County Animal Shelter operation hours are Monday through Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Shelter is closed on Sundays and holidays. To search for pets available for adoption through the Pitt County Animal Shelter visit www.pittcoanimalshelter.petfinder.com.
The Animal Control Advisory Board meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 6:30p in the Commissioners' Auditorium.
